Murray Gardens Retirement Village’s gala day on Saturday 17th June raised over $2300 for the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre.
A crowd of around 200 people gathered to buy items made by the village’s craft group, contributing to the impressive amount to be used in the fight against cancer.
Residents raised the money by selling knitted and crocheted goods, homemade jams and sauces, woodwork and crockery.
A raffle, door prizes, and an afternoon tea also contributed to the total raised. Village Manager Chiquita Walsh said feedback on the event was universally positive, with many community groups lending residents a hand on the day.
“We were inundated with so many generous people, which was so pleasing for us,” Chiquita said.
“The community centre was packed and seating was at a premium.”
“Our ladies feel extremely proud that we had the opportunity to give assistance to the cancer centre.”
The Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre brings together a range of cancer-related services to make treatment easier for patients and their families.
Oncologist Dr. Craig Underhill gave an address in which he explained how funds would be used, with new equipment at the centre being a priority.
