Sydney’s new $8.3 billion Metro rail line - due to open in the city’s north-west next month - has proven to be a catalyst for a series of new retirement and downsizing-friendly projects.
Expected to begin operation on 5 May, the Metro trains will leave from eight new stations and run every four minutes to Chatswood during peak hour periods.
Aveo’s $400 million Bella Vista retirement village development is located around 1km to the south of the new Bella Vista Metro station. The first stage of Aveo Bella Vista - known as Waratah - opened in July 2018.
Aveo National Sales Manager Sandy Spencer told Downsizing.com.au that the company’s project was influenced by the NSW Government’s decision to construct the Metro line.
“Access to transport is very important to our residents, so the delivery of the North West Metro was a key factor for us during the early stage considerations of our Bella Vista community design,” Mr Spencer said.
“We know that the Metro line will make a positive impact in the lives of all retirement living residents not just at our Aveo Bella Vista community, but the Hills district as a whole.”
Mr Spencer said that while residents at the project would not need to use the Metro for commuting, it was the case that “reliable and updated public transport to key hubs is always important for seniors.”
The Metro rail line will include features of particular interest to seniors, including wheelchair-friendly level access between platforms and trains, wider Opal gates, accessible toilets and lifts at all stations. The project will also include 4,000 car parking spaces and 138 ‘kiss and ride’ spaces.
On 7 March, BaptistCare launched the third and final stage of its Gracewood project at Kellyville, comprising some 88 two and three-bedroom apartments across three buildings.
The project’s website says the “soon-to-be-completed Sydney Metro high-frequency railway is conveniently close by, which will make a trip into the city all the more accessible” Gracewood is located between Kellyville and Bella Vista stations.
There are a range of other new downsizing-friendly projects which are benefitting from the Metro line in north-west Sydney. These projects include:
-
Cranbrook Residences, a boutique retirement lifestyle village at Bella Vista, which includes a range of new one, two and three bedroom residences available for sale. The village is surrounded by the Castle Hill Country Club golf course.
-
Anglicare The Ponds, which includes a range of new single-storey, freestanding and duplex villas, as part of a village which features a solar heated outdoor pool, gymnasium, full sized bowling green and playground. The village is located west of Kellyville Station.
-
New apartments at Anglicare Warrina Village at Castle Hill.
